Part 2 of a three-part series looking at the finances of the "Freedom Convoy"
Let me start off by wishing a very warm welcome to our new community members. We’ve had a banner week so far – our community has grown to well over 800 people, and I’ve been particularly pleased to see so many paid supporters and founding members! I really appreciate the support you’ve all shown for my analysis of convoy finances. In this, the second part of the series, I’m looking at where the money from the GoFundMe campaign is going, or will go. This analysis is meant to serve as a baseline assessment because the money side of this story is likely going to be a slow-burn, probably with some twists and turns.

To date, organizers have raised over CA$9 million through the GoFundMe campaign, and at the time of writing, this was increasing by $1 million daily. Potential beneficiaries of the funds are members of the convoy, although the actual criteria for getting funds from the fundraiser is not clear. The campaign website indicates that first, funds will go to drivers of semi trucks and direct support vehicles like “pilot trucks” and “mechanic trucks”. Other language suggests that funds will be released “to our Truckers”. Clearly, not everyone involved in the protest is a trucker, so it’s not clear who might (or might not) be eligible for reimbursement of expenses.
