The UN’s latest report on ISIL, al-Qaeda and associated groups provides a useful snapshot of how jihadist organizations are financing themselves, and how those financial systems are changing. In advance of the report’s release, I had the pleasure of speaking with Colin Smith, the Coordinator for the Monitoring Team, and Sue Eckert, an expert with the Monitoring Team, who shared their insights with me.
