I’m delighted to share that Michael Nesbitt and I have been awarded a SSHRC Insight Development Grant for our new research project:
📖 Bridging the Divide: Cryptocurrency, Sanctions Evasion, and the Fragmentation of Global Finance
As sanctioned states increasingly turn to digital assets to evade economic restrictions, the intersection of cryptocurrency, sanctions, and global finance has become one of the most important areas of illicit finance research.
Over the next year, this project will examine how digital assets are reshaping sanctions evasion, the implications for the international financial system, and the policy responses needed to address these emerging risks.
A major goal of this grant is to build a multidisciplinary network of researchers and practitioners working on sanctions evasion and digital assets. Through workshops, collaborative research, and knowledge sharing, I hope to connect people working across disciplines and sectors on these issues.
