Hello, Insight Monitor subscribers! Today, we have the last article in our series examining the white power ecosystem in Canada. We’re looking at the group Atalante, based in Quebec. The Quebec-based white power groups are an essential part of the ecosystem in Canada and also connect more broadly to the white power movement in the French-speaking world. This is our last article in the series for the time being. However, there are more white power groups in Canada, and we expect the ecosystem to continue to evolve so that we will keep a watching brief on this space. Have a read to learn more about this and all the groups that make up Canada’s white power ecosystem:

Atalante
Atalante is a Quebec-based neo-Nazi organization formed in Montreal in 2015 or 2016.1 It is best known for organizing white nationalist demonstrations and concerts between 2017 and 2018, most often in Quebec City. In 2018, Atalante was denounced by high-profile politicians after storming a Montreal Vice News office in an attempt to intimidate a reporter. The group’s leader, Nazi skinhead Raphael “Raf Stomper” Levesque, was the only member arrested but was acquitted of all charges in a controversial 2020 ruling. His acquittal was reversed following a unanimous verdict, and he was discharged by the same judge in 2023. While Atalante is said to be defunct, its website is still live.2 However, the PayPal account that historically accepted donations on behalf of the group is not currently accepting public money transfers at the time of writing.3 Past members have been reportedly engaged in neo-Nazi activism as recently as late 2023.
